Just when the summertime blahs hit, ballet saves the day! Don’t let your child miss out on the most comprehensive summer program yet! We will be offering classes in ballet, tap intro, and modern for students ages 3-5. The performance workshop will also offer professional instruction in drama, dress up, stage crafts, and many other fun activities. We will study a famous ballet, and the recreate the story through dance and mime. Students will be taught to express temselves through movement. All dancers will perform for parents at the conclusion of the workshop.

This is a great opportunity for your child to really advance in their dance training and to have fun. Students receive over 8 hours of instruction in just two weeks. This is equivalent to two months worth of training for many young dancers. What an exciting, quality activity for your young children.

We will be offering classes in ballet, jazz, and modern for students ages 6-9. The performance workshop will also be offering professional instruction in ballet history, nutrition, variations, drama, and stage crafts. We will study the famous ballet “Coppelia” and then recreate the story through dance and mime. Children will be taught to express themselves through movement.
This is a great opportunity for your child to really advance in her dance training. Students receive up to 35 hours of instruction! Students who attend the June workshop will have an in-studio demonstration at the end of the week. Those dancers attending the July workshop will have the opportunity to perform in a mini-performance onstage with the company dancers at the conclusion of the workshop. This is equivalent to 4 months worth of training for many young dancers. Most important, your child will have fun while learning a beautiful art form.

Paulo Manso de Sousa was born on the Island of Madeira, Portugal. He began his professional career with the Oakland Ballet, working with legendary ballet masters. He continued his career with countless highly esteemed professional ballet companies throughout the US and all over the world, including the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Finland, The Netherlands, Europe, Japan, Metropolitan Opera Ballet in New York,
Miami City Ballet, and Alaska Dance Theater, just to name a few. Mr. Manso de Sousa has served as a well respected instructor/choreographer, as well as ballet master and/or artistic director at a multitude
of international and domestic dance programs and festivals. He is also a faculty member of Dance Educators of America. Paulo founded Southern Arc Dance Theater professional company and Southern
Arc Dance Center for students, bringing his vision of “building a new generation of dancers” to students dedicated to growing their love and technique for the dance arts. An involved member of the
community, Mr. Manso de Sousa is committed to reaching out and giving back to the city he calls home and the surrounding area. He is regularly requested as a guest master instructor and to choreograph pieces for local events and around the world.

Jaspin Newell began his professional dance career at age 16 .He has been accepted to and attended several summer intensive programs including The Joffrey School of Ballet in New York City, on full scholarship. After graduating from high school, he was accepted with a full dance scholarship and academic scholarship to Marymount Manhattan College in New York. Jaspin is a dancer and choreographer for Movement Talent Agency and has gone on to perform with Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines “Radiance of The Seas”, on Season 2 of “So You Think You Can Dance” as a semi-finalist in Vegas, and with numerous jazz, modern, and ballet choreographers and companies such as Full Radius Dance and in unique showcases and industrial shows throughout his career.

Summer Intensive Workshop

The Lilburn and Grayson Schools of Ballet are pleased to announce our 21st annual summer intensive workshop. These classes are designed for the beg/intermediate through advanced dancers.
The workshop offers daily training in ballet, pointe, partnering, modern, jazz, pilates, African, drama for dancers and more! All classes are taught by a distinguished faculty of dance professionals. Guest instructors include Christy Corbitt-Miller (Louisville Ballet), Marthavan McKeon(South Shore Ballet Theatre), Ralph Jacques (Atlanta Ballet), Ellen McCollister (Zoetic Dance Ensemble), Beau Foister (The Georgia Ballet), Theresa Howard (Ballethnic), Amy Morrow (Parkview Drama), Marcial Ibarra (National Ballet of Cuba) and many more still to be announced. Dancers will experience new choreography and dance styles in the late afternoon rehearsals. The program culminates in an exciting on stage performance at the end of the workshop.
Christy Corbitt-Miller is currently a principle dancer with Louisville Ballet. Ms. Miller began her dance training at Lilburn School of Ballet. She has been a principal dancer with the Louisville Ballet for over 12 years, and worked as a guest artist throughout the U.S. She has performed leading roles in Balanchine’s “Who Cares”, the Great Gatsby, Coppelia, Giselle, and The Nutcracker to name a few. Ms. Miller began her dance training at Lilburn School of Ballet. She has been a principal dancer with the Louisville Ballet for over 12 years, and worked as a guest artist throughout the U.S. She has performed leading roles in Balanchine’s “Who Cares”, the Great Gatsby, Coppelia, Giselle, and The Nutcracker to name a few.We are thrilled to host Christy this summer!
Artistic Director, South Shore Ballet Theatre
Marthavan McKeon has been teaching ballet for more than 20 years. She began her ballet training with Merrilee Smith at the Atlanta School of Ballet. At 17, she joined the Atlanta Ballet under the direction of Robert Barnett, a former soloist with New York City Ballet. With the Atlanta Ballet, Joffrey Ballet and Pennsylvania Ballet, Marthavan performed many soloist roles in both the classics and full length ballets including La Bayadere, The Nutcracker, Swan Lake, Cinderella, The Sleeping Beauty, as well as George Balanchine’s Serenade and Theme and Variations.
Marthavan taught at Boston Ballet School in Norwell, MA for 11 years until its’ closure in June 2008. Knowing that the area no longer had a pre professional ballet school, she opened her own pre professional ballet school, South Shore Ballet Theatre, in September 2008 in Hanover, MA. She has taught in a number of summer programs including Boston Ballet’s Summer Ballet Intensive as well as the Guest Teacher at the l’Academie Americaine de Danse in Paris, France (AADP). She is also the Artistic Director and Founder of Milton Academy’s Summer Dance Program (Milton, MA).
Marthavan is an ABT® Certified and Affiliate Teacher, who has successfully completed the ABT® Teacher Training Intensive in Primary through Level 5 of the ABT® National Training Curriculum and presented students successfully for examination. ABT® certification includes training classes and annual exams for both SSBT students and teachers, ensuring high standards and consistent outcomes throughout American Ballet training. Marthavan holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Management from Georgia State University. She also holds a University Certificate of Proficiency (Zertifikat Deutsch als Fremdsprache) in Business German from Friedrich Alexander Universität in Erlangen, Germany.
Most recently, Mrs. McKeon was nominated to the Who’s Who in Dance by CID-UNESCO (International Council on Dance) based in Paris.
